News: Fiery multi-car crash kills 2, hurts 1 in Carlsbad

CARLSBAD, CA – One person died, and two were hospitalized after three cars collided on wet roadways in Carlsbad on Thursday, reports NBC 7 San Diego.

The incident happened around 6:45 a.m. in the area of 2700 Faraday Avenue, which is near the intersection with El Fuerte Street.

Police say that an eastbound Mazda MX-5 hydroplaned into the westbound side of Faraday, where it struck a Toyota Corolla and a Honda Accord. The sports car then caught fire.

The driver of the Mazda died at the scene of the accident. Authorities have not yet released their identity.

Medics transported the other two drivers to the hospital. The severity of their injuries is unknown at this time.

A full investigation is underway.
